Sign Up! Some of life’s best conversations happen around the dinner table. A shared meal has a way of bringing people together, creating space for deep and meaningful conversation, and turning strangers or acquaintances into true friends. Throughout Scripture itself, we see that sharing a meal is a powerful expression of fellowship, welcome, and love. In fact, Jesus frequently gathered with others around the table, from dining with tax collectors and sinners to sharing the Last Supper with His closest friends, the apostles. Even after His Resurrection, Jesus revealed Himself to His disciples in the breaking of the bread. Time and again, we see how something as simple as sharing a meal can become an opportunity to encounter Christ Himself, and of course, one another.
That same spirit of hospitality and fellowship is at the heart of Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, a special evening designed to bring our Saint Joseph parish family closer together! On Friday, November 6, from 6:30 to 8:30pm, parishioners will gather in homes throughout the community for an evening of food, conversation, and new friendships. For those interested, there will also be a First Friday Mass at 5:30pm in the church for those who would like to begin the evening with the celebration of the Eucharist before gathering around the dinner table.
Hosts will open their homes, welcoming small groups of fellow parishioners thoughtfully matched to bring together people of different ages, backgrounds, and stages of life. In a world where it can be easy to stay within our familiar circles, this is an opportunity to step outside our cozy and familiar comfort zones in order to get to know someone new, and to strengthen the bonds that unite us as the Body of Christ. Whether you’ve been part of Saint Joseph for decades or have only recently joined our parish, there is a place for you at the table!
Each dinner this month will also feature a conversation inspired by our theme for the month: “Life to the Full.” As we share a meal and get to know one another, we’ll reflect on this question: What does it look like for you to live “life to the full” in this season of your life? What are some things that make this easier or more difficult? It’ll be an opportunity to share stories, listen to one another, and discover how we can encourage each other to pursue the abundant life Christ promises.
You can participate by hosting a dinner in your home or joining a dinner as a guest. You don’t need to be an expert chef or a seasoned host (we promise!). Just bring a welcoming spirit and a willingness to share in the joy of Christian fellowship. Simply register, and we’ll take care of the group assignments and connect you with your dinner party before the event.
Please RSVP by Friday, October 30 by filling out the form found at the link below to sign up to be a host or a guest. And if November 6 doesn’t work for you, don’t worry! We hope to offer Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner regularly throughout the year, giving everyone more opportunities to participate.
Let’s get this bread, break it together, and welcome one another as Christ welcomes us. We hope that this evening will help us to continue building a parish community where everyone has a place to belong. We look forward to seeing you around the table! Sign Up!
